Need help with hip pain
I had the same thing earlier this summer when I increased the miles on long runs training for a half IM and the Chicago marathon. The advise I got was to stretch out the opposite muscle group. In the case of the hip it's the glutes and the hamstring.
So I did light stretching everyday whether I ran or not. After several days it got better.
Hope that helps:)

I had something similar develop when I ramped up training for marathons a few years ago.
Turned out it was bursitis in the hip. Was aggrivated by crossing your legs, types of shoes, etc. I backed off training a bit, used anti-inflams a bit, and tried to get some soft surface running in as well. Really does not bother me anymore.....of course I've got other pains to take its place!
Thanks for the advice! I'll try everything at this point. One of the nurses at the hospital where I work is itching to give me a shot in my hip! My hips are kinda bony and the thought of a shot near the bone is not appealing to me.
I've just got one other problem. The weather here is absolutely GORGEOUS today and I'm sooooooooo tempted to go run! How can I pass up such great weather????? I'll know my answer tomorrow when I can't walk!
 YIKES!! No needles for me thanks! As difficult as laying out for a week might be, I think, no I KNOW it would be better than a shot in the hip.
While this may not be the best advise... I just pushed through the hip pain I had for a couple weeks until it went away. It usually started after about 90 minutes. Shorter runs didn't usually bother it.
So I say if the weather is awesome and you feel good- go for it. Sharp, shooting pain?
Stop and walk it in. Stretch and apply some ice and hopefully it will improve.

I've been training for a longer race and now my hip is killing me! It feels like the satorius muscle. The pain runs over the top of my hip bone. It hurts when I stand up, flex at the hips, anything where I have to lift my leg. It hurts the worst when I push something like a stroller or grocery cart. I'm limping within 5 minutes. Does anyone know of a magic cure for this? I've added more stretching for my hips and have slowed down on the training. I've given up on doing the whole triathlon. I'm going to join a team and do the running.
