inspired...
I've watched Florida a couple times. It's warm but super flat and the run is 3 loops with some shaded sections. I'd go for it. If you can ride and swim and get your overall fitness up then you shouldn't have trouble with the run.
Go for steelhead. Logistics would be easy for you.
Florida is flat. pancake flat. The bridges are the only real hills. Fast!
agreed that logistics as far as getting to steelhead are easier, but the fact that i have the whole month off and a place to stay in gainesville for as long as i need (girlfriend) makes it not as much of a nightmare as it may seem.
Oh, that changes things. You can do a little sucking up, and race! Good idea!
I did Florida 70.3 this year as my first HIM and would suggest doing it. The race is well put together, in a great enviroment, and alot of fun. The run course is a bit rough with most of it on uneven fire roads, and little shade. Go for it.......
It sounds to me, just from reading your post, like you would really rather do Florida. I would say go for it and enjoy the journey.

So, like probably most people on this site, I just watched NBC's coverage of Kona and it has inspired me to actually start my ironman quest. I have been a sprint/olympic triathlete thus far. I was wondering what people's thoughts are on the florida 70.3. Assuming i have the finances, get entered, etc etc... Swimming and Biking are not my biggest worries, but rather can i effectively train in a michigan winter for a half ironman? i plan on trying out a half marathon in jacksonville, fl. sometime in febuary. the florida one seems like a good one for a beginner to this race due to the lack of elevation changes. my other option is the steelhead 70.3 in august, but i have almost the whole month of may off before i start my final year of school. any thoughts?
