New Forum Launched
tags are like categories but they are open to the posters discretion and they allow for more targeting of content for people searching. for example all posts up to now go in 'general discussion' or 'gear', etc. With tags you can label it 'triathlon bikes' or 'trek ttx' or 'Portland' stuff like that and then it'll be setup that you can view all related posts tagged 'Portland' or 'Trek TTX'.
Favorite this is a new feature that allows you to put items in a bookmarks folder. so posts you want to track, articles of particular interest etc. soon I'll create a page that you can go to and see all your favorites and also if anyone has commented on them recently. so just a shortcut type of feature for pages you want to track.
looks pretty nice. Will of course take some getting used to! Will there be something similar to the "new posts" link that I loved?

ya. will take a little getting used to, but I think long term you guys will like it. I will look into the latest posts type of page. I'm hoping to create one that would include all content, so new forum, new articles, new reviews, etc. so it's easy to find what's new to the site as a whole.
has a nice clean look tribro and it seems navigation is going to be easier.
are we still going to be able to see who's online?
great job. keep up the good work. thanks.

I don't need to get faster, I just need to get older!
Looks good, Paul! I'm with Kyilie, that New Posts button is my favorite, so it'd be great to have it back. thanks!

Ok..I'm a little cranky, but that's me...just need to get used to it. Change is good.
I'll echo cayman (cayman) here and ask: Who's on line? Birthdays?
Love the size of the new comment box.

Ooh, also, I'd like to have the option again to have newest posts on top versus on bottom.

Within a thread or on the forum main sections? Was that possible within a thread before?
New posts should filter to the top on the main forum sections. An I added Who's Online to that main page.
Yes, I could do it within the threads (I think it was an option under your profile). That way you didn't have to scroll to the end of a page.

Ah, didn't know that :) I'll look into that option.
I know from the main forum page if you click "# new" by the post it will take you to the latest post on this thread. So i clicked it and it takes me directly your post. Saves scrolling and you're also at the post new comment window.
I can't get into the Training Log. Hmmm.
It's a little tricky sorry. Log out. Then log in from the home page and make sure to click "remember me". then click over to the log. That should work. If that doesn't, let me know what browser you use. You may also try clearing your cache/cookies first...
Sure did, thanks!
Where are the State/ Regional/ country Threads?

Excellent. Not sure why it's sensitive to require only the login form on the homepage, but I'll try to figure it out. Glad that worked.
Oh no, I can't find my favorite thread!!! Help!!!!
Who needs a man when you have a Kuota Kalibur to wrap your legs around.
Ha! I think you found it.
No regional right now. I'm going to redo the local directory and have discussions in there. If you have something regional for now just post in General Discussion and tag it with the city or regional info.
o.k. so just added a "recent posts" tab to the forum categories on the left. This will give you a list of all the latest posts across the different forums.
Looks good. I'm with Anton though, after a couple years with the other style, this will take some getting used to. Guess I have a reason to spend more time here.
Functions quite nicely Paul. Will you end up being able to restore the info about the person who posted comments? I always liked being able to see where they were from, what their level was etc while I was reading the posts. If that's possible, I think it would be a nice addition to the new forums.
Ya. once i get the new gear guide and races up I'll get back to more member stuff.
Nice job man, way to keep us on our toes! I like the format and look forward to using it more.
I second cjhoffmn's suggestion.
Di mana ada kemauan, di situ ada jalan (Where there is desire, there is a road). – Indonesian proverb
Ok I know it is new and will take getting used to... but here are a few things that jump out at me (that I miss).
(1) being able to mark as "all read". I like being able to easily find what is new since I last was here, and right now it shows everything (and did last time I logged on, too).
(2) an easy way to get right here: the trifuel.com/forum link still goes to the old ones, and then I have to refind this one.
(3) email notification -- what happened to our old subscribed threads? I believe "favoriting" might be the same thing, but I'm just not sure and just having a hard time finding my way to things I was following.
(4) being able to go to the first new post in a thread. I really hate having to scroll through and try to remember which post I last read in a thread.
It will definitely take time to get used to... and I think mostly time to realize what is the best selling points for it. Paul, could you perhaps do an overview at some point of what is new and special? Like I know there is tagging now, but really how this is going to tie to gear/etc. Perhaps do a little demo of how it call all interact together or something? I know I'm still just not seeing "outside the box" but it's hard to change old habits. And 2 of the web sites I spend the most time on both rearranged this weekend and I think my brain is hurting.

Thanks for the feedback...
1. ya. not sure how to get this done yet. as far as mark all read. If you go to the "recent posts" link though it should filter up waht's new, and if there is a "#number New" link that is what's new in that thread for you. Once it filters out that all have been reset it should work.
2. Ya I need to go through all the old pages to update that link. It's updated on the homepage for now. thanks.
3. I will be looking into adding comment email notification later this week so you can get emails when new posts are made.
4. clicking on that "new" link should take you to the last post. this all works for me o.k. let me know if it isn't for anyone else (some issues if the thread has multiple pages - looking into that). But i go to the forum link or recent posts and it highlights what posts are new since last I checked and provides a link to them. I think it works a little different but should be pretty much what the last forums did with the new posts link.
The benefits will be more evident once I get the rest of the changes complete. This is just phase one to bring everyone on one system. Currently the gear, articles, forums, blog aggregator are all on different software systems. Trying to bring them onto one system. I basically need to update and bring the gear and race directories up to snuff. The old forums software has kinda been holding that process back. So I needed make some changes to move things forward.
It was nice in the old forum that when mousing over a post it displayed the initial line or two of the post - helped to determine if wanting to open the post or not.
Getting used to it - but liking it.

I go away for a couple of days and look what you did!!!
I´ll need some time to get used to this new layout but it looks nice.
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
Is there a way to have the most recent posts start at the top of the thread rather than having to scroll to the bottom and to the last pages? I like the idea as well of jkeeping the original post at the top of each page (if multiple pages of replies).
o.k. so there is now a 'comment viewing options' at the bottom of the thread where you can set your preference to show newest comments first. Please don't choose to display hundreds of comment per page though as it might cause some slowing of the server. haven't tested how it might affect things.
Also this should affect all the threads...
I'm gone for a few days and look what happens.
It is taking some getting used to, but so far so good. Thanks Tribro for continually trying to improve the site.
Thanks for the reply Paul.
As for getting rid of the marked as new ones, in your feed back I'm not sure what you meant by "once it filters out that all have been reset it should work".
Right now my "recent posts" lists every post I haven't gone to in this format as new. That is hundreds? thousands? of posts. So in my "recent posts" I have pages and pages with "# New" links. Do I have to actually click on those to get rid of them? I could just ignore them and leave them there, but then not only is it hard to tell what is really new, but I'm also anal about wanting it to be clean and true ;)
Clicking on the "# New" link isn't really working right for me (on mozilla). For example, in this thread, which I hadn't read since my last comment, it took me to RV's comment below your reply to mine. So I would have missed your info to me if I hadn't scrolled up to check for sure that it was my first new comment.

By filter out i mean that not all threads are marked new. Should just be anything 30 days out. So around page 10-11 the new link should be gone. At least that's what I'm seeing. Different for you? As far as what is really new, it should still be showing the list be recent post time. So if a thread that is 4 weeks old gets a new comment it will move to the top of the list. You shouldn't need to really click through multiple pages if you just want to see what's new today. Maybe if you miss a few days there will be a couple pages. So if you get rid of the "new" links on that first page you should be fine. Then when you go back to it you should only see new links for new comments.
On the mozilla issue, I'll have to look into it. Works o.k. on Safari. Assuming mozilla on windows?
You could try changing the comment preference to show newest comment first at the top of the thread.
Tribro - any way to quote a previous post?
And Kylie - that is a good feature that You were taken directly to one of my posts! ;)

Tribro - any way to quote a previous post?
No automated way currently. But you can copy and paste and put blockquote around it. So < blockquote > paste < / blockquote > (take out spaces in blockquote HTML tags)
Ok makes sense on the "recent posts" info.
Thanks for the quote info! That will be helpful since it doesn't seem there is a threaded version of posts? Where you can see who replied to who?
As for the new link, I'm using Firefox on Windows XP right now (was on Vista yesterday). It seems to just go the middle of the last post on the first page (even if my last new is a couple comments above that). I'm looking at some of the older threads that are marked as having new posts for me, and they also take me to the last comment on the first page, and so that the name of the person who left the comment is only half on the screen, and the comment box is visible. I'll email you a screen shot in a sec.

There is actually a threaded option in the comment options at the bottom. But not set as default.
but... if you use the threaded version the comment is placed after the comment you are replying to so it won't filter to the top or bottom of the page for new posts.
So, only use the reply link if you are replying to the specific comment. If you are commenting on the original thread use the form at the bottom.
Ok that makes sense.
And the "# New" link seems not to work if the new posts were left while I'm on the site. I refreshed the "recent posts" page and saw there were 3 new posts here. So I clicked on "3 New" and it took me to the top of the thread.
Miles of Life --- Powered by MarkyV
If you have it set to show comments oldest to newest (default) then it's the multiple page issue I mentioned.
Any configurable way for me to stop the original post from always being on top - even there when sorted newest first.
Liked it at first but when there are multiple posts it is kind of annoying...just being picky. :)

I actually really like it myself...let's me get the new posts up top but always know the thread topic. ![]()
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
can a page number line be added at the top of the thread page so that you don't have to scroll down to the bottom to get to it? (i like reading in order [reverse order bugs me] but, when threads get long, I want to jump ahead)
[i have to say i'm not thrilled with the changes, but i'm waiting and hoping that there are more to come...it seems like the forum structure got simpler, but not necesarily in a richer more elegant way(...my 2 cents...take that for what it may be). I love the site, so maybe I'm just reacting to having it change.]
I totally forgot you were doing an update. Its not bad.
With the "tagging" thing... how do you add a tag?
I'll look into adding a pager at the top as well. Thanks for the feedback. I know change is tough sometimes and appreciate everyone's patience with this update. I hope to have the gear guide launched next week and the race guide by end of the month.
When adding a thread there will be a field for entering tags. Just word descriptors separated by commas.

o.k. so this is it. Some of the forums and posts from about 3 years back have been migrated over. Ideally we'll start using the General Forums section more (which is currently the default link) and use tags for posts.
It's pretty raw right now and most of the BBCode and inline pics don't work for old posts so you may have to update your signatures. You should have all your private messages still. I'll be adding better ability to get comment notification, insert images, etc as I work on rolling out more updates.
You'll need to log in using the form on the left. Click the "remember me" to hook into the training log if you use that. The login form is also on the home page.
Let me know if you have any problems logging in...
