Hello all,

This is my first post, and I must say this is a great site! My question is what are folks doing for dinner? Right now I am sometimes eating, sometimes not. Weather I am at Masters Swimming or out for a run or ride I start from work with just a goo pack or two before the workout and I find myself getting home around 8:30 at night. I always finish my workout with a recovery drink. Lately it has been the Power Bar one. I always try to be in bed for 10. This does not seem to leave enough time for dinner. I do not want to eat to close to going to bed. What are you folks doing?

Thanks
Tim

I'll try to reply even though the diet aspect of training is my worst. Basically you should try to eat dinner. Your body needs to have something more in it than a couple gus and a receovery drink :) It's best to try and eat something within a 20 minute window of workout completion. Your body best processes the food and replenishes its losses within that window.

Make sure you get some protein as well as carbs. The recovery drink helps, and I might add a burrito if your crunched for time. Get one with steak, black beans, some guac, and cut out the sour cream. At least that's what I do. Basically some form of protein and some form of carbs.

Here's an article with some meal ideas:

Eating disturbing sleep can be a personal thing but usually it's the level of fat in the meal that disturbs the sleeping. Carbs before a nap is a good way to induce sleep, obviously within reason, as being stufffed is not going to help sleep.
If you don't eat after a workout, your body will have to cannibalize other tissues to help replace the ones you have just trained and that is just working against yourself.
