The inaugural Railsplitter Triathlon will be a 1 mile swim, 36 mile bike ride and a 7 mile run.
The swim will take place in a private, no wake cove of Lake Petersburg. Triathletes will challenge themselves with an open water mass start, out and back swim, starting and finishing at a gently sloping boat ramp.
After a short distance to the transition area, athletes will take off on a 36 mile bike ride on country roads surrounded by rolling prairie and flat straight-aways. The bike portion will encompass both Menard and Cass counties and will take athletes through Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area (JEPC).
Upon completing the scenic and challenging bike course, athletes will finish with a hilly run through Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site. Athletes will run through the same pioneer village Abraham Lincoln called home for six years of his life. Most all of the run course within Lincoln’s New Salem will be shaded by large mature oak and maple trees. The Railsplitter Triathlon will finish in the picnic area located within Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site.
