2008 Professional Athlete
In partnership with Tri KC we are proud to announce our Professional Athlete for this year’s event, Mr. Tim DeBoom, two-time winner (2001 and 2002) of the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, and top-ranked American at the Ironman distance.
Closed Course Featuring Two Courses
The Shawnee Mission Triathlon is a closed course event featuring a Short Course (Sprint Distance) and a Long Course (International Distance). The both courses are routed on the Mill Creek Streamway which adjoins Shawnee Mission Park. ChampionChip timing-system will be used with aid stations at transition and at every mile on the run. The Long Course is a .62 mile (1000 meter) swim, 18 mile bike and a 4.5 mile run (see maps for course layout). The swim is an out and back course with a standing water start. The bike course is 4 laps of the main park road providing a rolling venue.
The Short Course is a .31 mile (500 meter) swim, 9 mile bike, and a 2.4 mile run (see maps for course layout). The swim is an out and back course with a standing water start. The bike course is 2 laps of the main park road providing a rolling venue.
Eligibilty
This event is open to all persons ages 15 years and older. Competitors under the age of 18 must have parental or guardian consent (see registration form). Requests for reasonable accommodations will be made for special needs participants.
