Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island

The inaugural Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island will take place on July 13, 2008. The course will utilize a variety of Rhode Island's scenic areas, including Narragansett, the picturesque communities along State Road 102 and downtown Providence.

The swim will be held in the protected waters off Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett. Water temperatures are expected to be 68-72 degrees F. The majority of the bike course encompasses the quiet, scenic communities of Exeter, West Greenwich, Coventry, North Scituate and Johnston. The bike route finishes in downtown Providence, with the bike-to-run transition located at Waterplace Park. The two-loop run course takes athletes through the historic East Side of Providence, tree-lined Blackstone Boulevard, Brown University campus and downtown Providence's business district. The race finishes with a backdrop of the State Capitol and Providence Place Mall.

Comments

Major props to anyone who has a bike course profile for this race - or insight into the topography. Never been to RI, but coming up for the race with no idea what to expect.

I've put a call into the race director - I'll post whatever she passes my way. The quick description above seems to suggest a fast course on the "easier" side and that is what I'm hoping for.

I got some more info on the course - some is redundant to what I copied/pasated above, but some is new. It sounds more challenging than I originally thought, but hey it's a triathlon and they're all hard (at least for me). Better to know 3-months ahead than at the starting line..

Swim Course

The swim will be held in the protected waters off Roger Wheeler State Beach in
Narragansett. Water temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean are expected to be 68-
72 degrees F. Wetsuits will likely be permitted.

Transition 1

Athletes will transition to the bike in the parking lot Roger Wheeler State Beach.
Following the swim, athletes will place their swim gear (wetsuit, goggles, cap) in
their swim gear bag, which will be transported to the finish area.

Bike Course

Athletes will ride north on State Road 1A through historic Wickford before turning
west onto State Road 102. The majority of the bike course encompasses State
Road 102 and the quiet, scenic communities of Exeter, West Greenwich,
Coventry, North Scituate and Johnston.

Transition 2

The bike route finishes in downtown Providence, with the bike-to-run transition
located at Waterplace Park.

Run Course

The two-loop run course takes athletes through the historic East Side of
Providence, tree-lined Blackstone Boulevard, Brown University campus and
downtown Providence's business district. The course is described as “challenging” with some false flats. The race director tells me that a Garmin GPS file of the entire route will be put up on the site in a couple weeks.

Finish

The race finishes with a backdrop of the State Capitol and Providence Place Mall.

Not sure how long ago this was posted but here's the bike course:
