Things I Should Do
posted October 6, 2008 by TryScott
Should have a strategy for nutrition instead of eating/drinking whenever I think about it.
On long workouts, I should record when I eat/drink, my average HR/pace/speed, and how I feel.
Should do a sweat test when hot, and another when cool.
Should follow a training plan, not just create one.

I've heard some crazy things on race morning. What would you rather NOT hear from friends or family on the morning of your first race?

WTC Sells Ironman to Providence Equity
posted September 8, 2008 by Tribro
Looks like WTC has sold the Ironman brand. Endurance sports have definitely taken a more center stage in our lifestyle and big races and big money is now going into making them more mainstream and marketable. More can be found on Dan's write up on Slowtwitch.

Countdown To First IM
posted September 7, 2008 by TryScott
I'm not sure if she knows that I'm getting into, but my wife gave me permission to sign up for IM Cozumel. Not that I needed motivation before, but right now I have more motivation to train than ever.
Going, Going Gone

It seems IronMan races are no longer the only events selling out in the blink of an eye, 100 mile trail runs have joined in on the feeding frenzy as well. Yes folks, that is correct, 24+ hour, 100 mile trail running foot races thru some of the hilliest, rockiest, rootiest and ankle twistiest parts of the the country are now selling out in hours.

Swimming
posted August 28, 2008 by TryScott
For 6 weeks before my first tri, I logged an average of 2858 m/week. Result was finishing 81/160 for the swim. In my last triathlon I did not swim a single time for 6 weeks, and was 64/121 on the swim. I was mid pack both times, so either 3k of swimming per week isn't enough to make a difference, or my swim training isn't effective.
Training Plan
posted August 26, 2008 by TryScott
Today I decided to organize my training. Up until now, I've never planned training more than 24 hours in advance. From this point on, I would like to have a plan for no less than 2 weeks, and no more than 4 weeks out. We'll see how it goes. The time I think I have to train is a lot more hours/week than the time I've actually logged in the past. Time will tell how it goes.
Stress Fracture
posted August 25, 2008 by jdcox1999
I made the standard rookie mistake of overtraining and wound up with a shiny new stress fracture for my troubles. Obviously I'm not running for 6 - 8 weeks, which means no PDX marathon. I am wondering how much biking can I do? How long should I wait to start biking? Can I swim right away?
