Awesome race!
Reviewed by: Captain Dan, Sun May 22 2005
I did the St George Triathlon for the second time this year. It just gets better every year.
Both olympic and sprint distances were offered, including a very nontechnical sprint mountain bike course. Over 900 participants and 1500 spectators took advantage of the spectacular new Utah Sand Hollow State park.
The swim and bike courses were similar to last years, but a new running course was designed. The new course was entirely trail running, partly on a mesa with a spectacular view.
Despite growing bigger every year, the race has maintained a wonderful hometown family charm. This year volunteer seemed to be everywhere along the course as well as plentiful in key areas. The race is organized by the very friendly Stanley family of St George who do a great job making everyone feel welcome and excited to be a part of the race. The race is especially welcoming to first time triathletes. Extremely competative athletes who want a certified course and race officials penalizing minor rules violations will be disappointed.
But if you're looking for an awesome race to motivate you to get in shape or enjoy spectacular scenery and comradery, this is a wonderful race for you!
