Description
The swim course will be a ½ mile in the Back Bay of Newport Beach. The flatwater ocean swim will be followed by a 15 two-loop cycling course, which will take place on the Back Bay and Eastbluff Drives. The race will conclude with a new fast and scenic 3 mile run course.
Swim Course
Swim Course: 1/2 mile
The swim is a flat water swim and the water temperature is usually in the high 60's.You will be doing a rectangle shaped course in the Newport Dunes area of the Back Bay. The course is counterclockwise. It starts immediately west of the bridge which goes across the bay at the Dunes, heads north parallel to the bridge, then does three left hand turns. It basically follows the perimeter of the bay inside the Dunes. The exit to the swim is next to the start, then you run to the Transition on Back Bay Drive. Wetsuits are optional but recommended.
Bike Course
Bike Course: 15 miles
From the transition area, head down Back Bay Drive. Continue along Back Bay Drive until you reach Eastbluff Drive and turn right. Make a u-turn on Eastbluff before reaching Vista del Sol. Continue back down Eastbluff and make a U-Turn before reaching Jamboree. Turn right on Back Bay Drive heading back towards the transition area. Complete two full loops of this course.
Run Course
Run Course: 3 miles
The run course is an out-and-back route behind the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort. Competitors will travel through the Newport Dunes parking lot and over the marina bridge. Follow N. Bayside Drive and turn left at the pedestrian/bicycle path. Upon exiting the bike path, make a sharp right turn onto the path leading up to Back Bay View Park. Follow this path until it dead ends at Jamboree and make a u-turn heading back in the direction that you came. Finish on Back Bay Drive in front of the Newport Dunes.
