Of the 2000 participants in the 2004 Webster Tri, 1500 were newbies. This made for a very positive, supportive mix of competitors. The event seemed well-organized overall - from informed and easy-to-spot volunteers, to clearly cordoned-off race areas, to easy-access race day parking information for spectators. Detailed training plans were available for those who wanted them, and on registration day, Danskin offered several ongoing workshops about the course and etc. to encourage everything to run as smoothly as possible. Times were promptly posted after the event. We swam alongside volunteers who coached those feeling particularly nervous around thrashing bodies. We biked a variety of challenging hills and speedy flats on little-traveled back roads; we ran out-and-back, with a downhill on the way home. Recommended to all women - experienced or not - as a blast!
